How do I setup discount vouchers on my website

What is a discount voucher?

Discount vouchers are one time usage vouchers that give your customer/s a discount on the item/s purchased through your website.

For example -:

1) I have a voucher for £25

2) I want to buy an item on your website for £30

3) I would get £25 discount when using the voucher code, leaving me with £5 to pay

How do the discount vouchers work on my website?

There's some important information that you may need to inform customers before they recieve their discount voucher such as -:

1) If your customer buys an item that is of higher amount than the voucher code, then the discount would be applied but the remainder will still need to be paid

For example, they buy a £50 item with a £25 discount voucher, then they will still need to pay the remaining £25

2) In order to use the voucher, the item/s they are purchasing must be larger than the voucher amount, they can't use half of the voucher now and half later.

For example if someone is trying to buy a £20 item with a £40 voucher then the voucher code won't be applied, they need to spend the entire amount in one order.

3) The voucher doesn't apply to delivery costs, and only applies to their shop basket.

This means if they will still need to pay for delivery if required to do so on your website.

How do I setup a discount voucher on my website?

Setting up a one time usage voucher code can be done by -:

1) Login to your website manager

2) From the left hand menu, select 'Shop (items/products)' and then 'Main shop menu'

3) Select 'Offers, Promo Codes & Discounts (shop rules)'

4) Click the 'Offers, promo codes & discount settings' tab and make sure that 'Hide promotion codes box on your website?' is set to 'No', then press save

5) Click the 'Manage Your Offers, Promo Codes & Discounts' tab and then press 'Add rule'

6) Name your voucher code, and then under 'Stop processing rules after this rule?' select 'Yes' then press 'Continue to step 2'

7) Select the '£A off' rule and enter in the amount you wish the discount voucher to be, (EG £25 for a £25 discount voucher) then press 'Next Step'

8) Select the items you wish this voucher to apply for, or leave on 'Apply to all items' if you wish this discount voucher to work across your site on all products then press 'Continue to step 4'

9) Tick the 'Available only if a promotional code is used?' checkbox then enter in a code that you wish your customer to use to apply this discount. Once done press 'Continue to step 5'

10) If you wish to limit the time usage of this discount code, then select the dates then press 'Continue to step 6'

11) Tick 'Restrict to a limited number of customers?' and restrict the voucher to only be used once by entering '1' in the 'Number' box

12) Press 'Save' in the top right of the screen

You can now send the voucher code to your customer for them to apply when checking out on your website.
